- Children & young people - except under the headings listed under Grants for Merseyside and Grants for Northern Ireland (see links to the left)
- Church-based or church-run groups - except for community groups merely using church premises
- Capital building costs - except, in Merseyside only, to improve access for disabled people
- Festivals
- Medicine & health
- Holidays, expeditions & outings
- Sport
- Vehicles
- Animal charities
- Arts, heritage, or local history projects (including community arts)
- Conservation & the environment
- Employment creation schemes
- Victims - except rape crisis and domestic violence projects
- Academic or medical research
- Uniformed groups
- Sponsorship, advertising or fund-raising events
